The Transition Community project is about bringing the community together to
work together to create a sustainable community that will be resilient to the
challenges of climate change, water restrictions, and the challenges of peak
oil .
(that is - we are running out of oil globally, and rapidly approaching a crisis
- what will society do to cope when the oil is gone - we have to plan for
this now and put strategies in place now to minimise the effects of that pending
crisis).
A group has formed to pull everyone together that is already doing something
about the issues, that is forming vegetable growers networks, creating
community gardens, water harvesting, solar energy provision, building electric
cars, developing walking school buses, you get the picture.
The group has approached the Shire of Kalamunda and the shire are very
interested in the project and will begin a dialogue with the group to see how
the shire can work with the group.
The group will be holding a Transition Community Expo' in the coming spring to
bring together as many people, groups, businesses and organisations who are
already working towards the goals of community sustainability. The expo
will then show what areas still need groups, businesses, work, to be done to
fill in the gaps that exist. It will be a forum for 'cafe conversations'
on how the community can then fill those needs and support what is already
being done.
