Monselice medieval market is brilliant. The market is not focused so much on selling produce although it does, it is primarily focused on being a tourist drawcard to create sales opportunities for the local retailers. Apparently it was a little dying town with great tourist potentail, but no tourists or visitors. They started up the medieval market which happens once a month in September and October only each year. The town really gets behind the event and everyone dresses up in medieval costumes and become actors on the stage. The streets are filled with medieval village activities, wine barrels are being made in one area, wheat is being threshed and ground, the flour bags are being sewn, then the flour is being kneaded into dough, the dough goes to the baker who bakes it in a medieval oven and then it is sold as Italian pastries etc. In another area, wool is being spun and hides are being tanned, all step by step in the traditional medieval methods by people in medieval costumes. It is basically a recreation of village life and all the skills that were evident in areas of the village at that time. Fantastic! And the crowds were flocking to the little town. Retailers in Kalamunda may complain about lack of parking for customers if this was held in Kalamunda!
